Our Open Call 24 attracted nearly 60 applications from all over Scotland. Below are those selected with more information to be added as the projects progress. Other commissions will be announced in the coming months.

Elizabeth Ogilvie & Robert Page
An art/science project researching and filming in Dumfries and Galloway’s key carbon sequestering coastal ecosystems with the resulting work comprising large-scale video projections and experimental printed images shown alongside local participants contributions.
As part of the project, Professor William Austin, will share his groundbreaking research into the carbon sequestering science of these locations and environmental artist/educator Katie Fowlie will devise a series of sustainable interactive workshops using Anthotype printing and Chlorophyll photography.

Seamus Killick & Maya Rose Edwards
Seamus and Maya will develop the first iteration of the multi-sensory interactive educational tool; the ‘Blanket Bog’ with which they will host a weekend of participatory arts workshops in collaboration with Rumpus rooms in Glasgow. During the workshops, they will explore the ancient histories of Scottish bogs and their ecological potential through games and creative activities, culminating in the crafting of objects to offer to the bog for future generations, mirroring that of our Iron Age ancestors. The Blanket Bog will ask: What do we wish to communicate to the future? How have people done this in the past? What will this generation leave behind for the next to discover?

Helmut Lemke
Helmut will be developing his work ‘Sounding Poems’. The words and sounds tell of his concern for and his awe and love of the natural environment. They also reflect his anger about the disrespect the societies we live in show to the environment. The work responds to the exploitation of those that have no voice and makes comment on the abuse of land and air and water and on the marginalisation of the more-than-human communities who live on the land, breath the air and depend on water.

Jasmin Robertson
Jasmin will be creating Na Mara, a series of pop up workshops, traveling up the Western coast of Scotland starting in Dumfries. Jasmin will be travelling by electric bike with a trailer to deliver a series of community engaged workshops that focus on the wonders of the sea. Jasmin has been exploring techniques such as seaweed printing and pressing, natural dying and ink making, cyanotypes and analogue film developers which she will use as a basis for the workshops.
