Climate breakdown is our new reality. In 2022 EcoArt took action, with the next iteration of LAND, giving voice to the communities hopes, fears and visions for the future. ‘LAND’ artists ran Flag Design & Make workshops across the region.
Participants made large fabric flags to signal their environmental messages and these joined all the other flags flying together at events, carrying a spectacular and powerful environmental message from the community.
In July and August workshops were held in Kirkudbright, Dumfries and Annan.
For Nithraid in Dumfries, all the participating boats in carried a flag and as they arrived in Dumfries they were carried to and flown on the suspension bridge. At the Bell Raid in Annan, flag design and make workshops were held aboard tall ship La Malouine and a procession through the town was held with music from The Samba Sisters before the flags were hosted up the rigging.
In September there were flag making workshops in Buckie during the Findhorn Bay Arts Festival and Flags flew on theTall Ship, The Lady of Avenel.
